Soko Says is a cheeky little card brand with a big heart, an even louder voice, and a tightly curated collection that packs a punch. We’re rooted in heritage, identity, and storytelling.
Named after the Zimbabwean totem Soko Murehwa, the totem of our founder’s family, we draw inspiration from the monkey: clever, curious, and unafraid to speak its truth. In Shona culture, Soko isn’t just playful; it’s a respected storyteller and a symbol of wit, mischief, and connection. The word Soko is also sometimes translated as “word”, a nod to the power of language, humor, and saying exactly what you mean.
At Soko Says, our cards don't whisper. They laugh loud, celebrate boldly, and say what others wont... with a wink and and a whole lot of heart.
Some designs are developed in collaboration with a talented illustrator based in Georgia (the country), while others are created using design tools like Canva. All final concepts are our own, with external support used solely to help visualize and draft our ideas.
Each greeting card is printed on recycled, high-quality paper in Washington, DC, and carries a voice, yours.
You can shop our cards in-store and online at Bluebird & Co. (Crozet, VA), Dusk Goods & Gifts (Omaha, NE), Edge of Urge (Wilmington, NC), Grass Roots Juicery (Brooklyn, NY), and Presley Paige (Fayetteville, AR).
